The Lost Tooth

by A.M. Vela and Mary Esparza-Vela

illustrated by Visual Myths

"The Lost Tooth," a new picture book by A.M. Vela and Mary Esparza-Vela, is a cute story of a baby hippo who discovers one morning that he's lost a tooth. Baby Hippo starts retracing his steps searching for his missing tooth. He meets many other animals along the way and asks them if they've found or seen his tooth. They all tell him how many teeth they have as young animals and how many they'll have when fully grown adults. No one has seen Baby Hippo's lost tooth. However, the last animal he meets has a great suggestion for the little hippo. Baby Hippo doesn't find his lost tooth, but he does get some compensation, which gives us a funny ending.

"The Lost Tooth is illustrated by Visual Myths. Their artwork is cheerful, upbeat, and fun. Readers will be entertained by the pictures as they hunt along with Baby Hippo for his lost tooth. This sweet picture book is recommended for ages 5 to 8. Younger children can follow the story through the expressive illustrations.

There are some  hippo facts at the end of the story, plus photographs of a newborn hippo and a hippo with its mother.  For the older, independent reader, there are silly hippo jokes to enjoy.

At the back of the book is a list of children's books in English, Spanish, and bilingual format, available from the writing team of A.M. Vela and Mary Esparza-Vela.
