MARVELOUS MIDDLE GRADE MONDAY

THE TREASURES OF WEATHERBY
By Zilpha Keatley Snyder

“The Treasures of Weatherby,” by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, is an adventure and a mystery. For starters, is there hidden treasure at the big old Weatherby House mansion? If there is treasure, will someone find it—and steal it—it before the direct descendant, Harleigh Weatherby the Fourth can? And who is the strange girl who can “fly” over the garden wall surrounding Weatherby House? Can she help Harleigh or will she get him in trouble?

Harleigh Four is small for his age. He’s undergone several operations to try to spark a growth spurt. His elementary classmates teased him about his small size, so he’s home-schooled by ‘Uncle Edgar.’ Harleigh understands his importance to the future of Weatherby House. He loves the old crumbling down mansion, especially the huge library and his round room in the tower.

Neglected Weatherby Mansion is ruled over by Aunt Adelaide. If she doesn’t like what Harleigh Four does, he could be shipped off to a strict academy for boys. Just when Harleigh has found a mysterious friend, things seem to be aligning against him. Together, with his new friend, Allegra, maybe Harleigh can solve the mysteries of Weatherby House and help ensure its future.

Highly recommended for middle grade readers, ages 8 to 12.

On the cover, it says:  "Loathed by Lemony Snicket." (L. Snicket and Z.K. Snyder were good friends.)
